Rancher’s Prayer - Bless This Generation

Lord,

I come to you asking for some special assistance. Not for me, but for a new babe—the latest Hashknife kid in our world. Each year we experience the beauty of life with calving and foaling seasons, but this one…this is special. It has been nine long months, and we are ecstatic about his arrival. This little one is near and dear to all our hearts and has blessed three generations with his tiny existence. We have already soaked him in love and adoration…and now, I ask you to do the same. From the moment he joined us, he has been one of our greatest gifts from you.

With that, I want to humbly thank you for every second you have already given us.

As you know, for six generations we have worked, loved, and done our best to look over this land and these herds—your land, your herds. I request now that you watch over this new infant and help him as he grows. I ask not that you solve his problems, only he alone can handle those. Instead, I request you to provide the tools and resources for him to overcome any challenge that comes his, and this ranch’s, way in the future. Ultimately, I beg you to bestow upon him these simple characteristics: strength through tough years, humility in good ones, faith in moving forward no matter the circumstances, and the desire to embrace each moment with everlasting resolve.

We will do the hard work to teach him right from wrong, we only ask you to guide his success as he embraces the beautiful burdens of our heritage. As he grows, we hope he will learn to love this life. Ultimately, that can only be determined by time. We have toiled to leave what we can to him some day. Eventually, it will be his to run with all the passion we can share—if that is what he chooses…
